Robert Miller-Smith
Robert Miller-Smith is Professor Emeritus at the National Institute of Design Swinburne University of Technology, a role that continues and acknowledges his extensive commitment to design and education. Born in Scotland, he studied printing in Glasgow and London and went onto to lecture in typography and graphic design at Leeds College of Art and London College of Printing before becoming Head of the Department of Visual Communications at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. He emigrated to Australia in 1978 to become the Head of the School of Design at the South Australian College of Advanced Education, before being made Professor of Design at Swinburne School of Design.
He has held positions on numerous boards and committees, has been made a Fellow of a number of important design associations including the Design Institute of Australia, the Chartered Society of Designers, the International Society of Typographic Designers, the Royal Society of the Arts and the Australian Academy of Design.
