Fabio Ongarato
Fabio Ongarato, graphic designer, art director and curator, is at the vanguard of a new generation of Australian designers. In professional practice for just twelve years, Fabio has gained an impressive reputation for a designer still in the early stages of his career. Based in
Fabio’s unique approach to design reflects his passion for contemporary photography and art direction. He works across a variety of fields such as fashion, corporate, arts and architecture then deliberately crosses the boundaries between them. Key projects include an identity and journal for the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, a branding campaign for 2 consecutive years of the Melbourne International Festival, and advertising campaigns for fashion designers Akira Isogawa, Scanlan&Theodore, and Karen Walker. Exhibitions include ’Fashion Photography Now’ in collaboration with French curator Patrick Remy and "Unpublished", a major exhibition on contemporary Australian and New Zealand fashion photography. Most recently, Fabio was asked by the New York-based fashion magazine, Big, to art direct their Australian issue.
Fabio has won numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious ISTD London award for his work on Lineage, an exhibition of the work of architect Daniel Libeskind. Fabio is regularly asked to speak at national and international design institutions and universities.
