Andrew Johnstone
Personally, I think Bio’s were invented by the Devil to piss people off. Writing them is akin to setting ones testicles alight. Or so I’m told. I have been in this design lark for around 10 years now and in the last 6 years and have become deeply involved in the worldwide design community as the creator of Design is Kinky. Along with Murray Bell, I started the Semi-Permanent design conference which has quickly established itself as the biggest of it’s kind in Australia. The event attracts well over 3,000 design nutters from all over Australia and internationally.
I have spent the last few years building up Design is Kinky into a masterful dictatorship that will one day take over the world. I’m not saying we have weapons of mass destruction but it’s early years yet. I also publish books and have recently thrown my all into the magazine publication world with the release of EMPTY design magazine and I also help out on Murray’s, Movement magazine.
And if that wasn’t enough to turn a sane man nutty, I am also designing up a limited edition selection of T-shirts for 55DSL. Plus designing the new surf magazine STAB. I am helping out with a graffiti book with Royal Elastics & Tusk called Dot to Dot and we have just finished designing the latest Semi Permanent book; 240 pages of amazing artwork.
What I have been up to in the last few years would, even in my modest estimate, take too long to type and would probably bore the hell out of you. Pretty much the same kind of stuff as mentioned above, just more of it. Some highlights would be; speaking at a previous OFFF in Spain; speaking in San Francisco at a BD4D event; speaking at the Fresh Conference in Sydney in front of over 2000 people; publishing our first book called Permanent which was a huge success; starting the Semi-Permanent event; working with the awesome Italy Diesel crew; and a lot that I’ve forgotten about.
