Vince Frost
Born in Brighton, England and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Vince Frost returned to the UK at the age of sixteen, where he completed his design education at West Sussex College of Design. He began his career in freelance practice working for Howard Brown and Pentagram, but in 1989 joined Pentagram on a full time basis before becoming their youngest associate, just three years later, at the age of 27. In November 1994 he formed his own consultancy, Frost Design, where he remains senior creative director.
In April 2004 Vince became joint design director of the newly formed emeryfrost in Australia, along with the internationally acclaimed designer and AGI member, Garry Emery. With offices in both Sydney and Melbourne he now divides his time between the two cities, in addition to his ongoing role at Frost Design London. In independent practice Frost’s innovative use of photographic images and striking typography has been applied to a diverse range of projects, including the literary magazine Zembla, now in its seventh issue, portfolios for Magnum, stamps for the Royal Mail, TV advertising for BT and setting up The Look of the FT the Business Magazine.
His award-winning work on both Big Magazine and The Saturday Independent Magazine consolidated his credentials as an editorial designer, earning him considerable praise from the international design press and early international awards. In 1996 Vince was awarded Designer of the Year at Chartered Society of Designers and shortlisted for the BBC design awards. He is a member of the CSD, D&AD, ISTD and AGI.
An active member of the international design community, Vince can regularly be seen lecturing at conferences around the world and judging design competitions. In 2003 he was a speaker at the inaugural World Creative Forum, London (Frost Design London also designed the identity) and earlier this year was invited to speak at the 7th International Design Indaba, South Africa. Frost’s London studio is currently working on a range of projects including an annual report for Clarks Shoes, marketing and packaging for Panasonic and the identity for Swiss Re: Centre of Global Dialogue, as well as books for the Architectural Association and exhibition design for the Crafts Council, The Serpentine Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. Frost Design London has also been selected to create the new visual identity for Image Source, Europe’s leading independent producer of royalty-free imagery.
